human?

i’m preaching at church this sunday and i thought i would deal with the “imagio die” – the image of GOD mentioned in genesis 1:26-27:

26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

traditionally within CHRISTian thought the “imagio de”i has been considered what makes us human. so we have to ask the question what exactly is the image of GOD within us? or another way of asking is to ask “what exactly makes us human?” so i figured i would ask y’all.

this is your chance to be a part of the sermon. what do you think makes us human? or what is the image of GOD?

  1. delightful words/statement ‘ imagio dei’

in that we have the capacity to (insert divine “good quality”) that is the image with which we as humanity define the SupremeBeing, Unknowable essence,
ie. that we have the capacity to love, that we can manifest compassion, generosity and justice we re created in His image

  2. I think the image of God that we have in us is our compassion. Our human side is not acting on it. We are to have compassion for others & help those in need. We are to rule over the earth…I think this means while we are on earth, we are the Father figures. We guide and teach our children and others when we can, and are fair & just with punishment when needed, but mainly that we take care of everything God created. Including the earth, which I think we forget & do a crappy job of taking care of it. Helping others doesn’t need to be just financially, it’s helping in any way we can, through the labor of love, kind heart & listening, to calling and showing concern. I think the human side of us is turning the other cheek. Talking bad about the homeless guy begging for food instead of buying him a $1.00 sandwich. The image of God was in so many during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, but the human side was in some when they looted through the abondoned, damaged homes. The human side in alot of us is watching the news on tv and seeing stories like Rowanda (sp), famine, images of desperate poverty and we do absolutely nothing except for one moment think, “Oh, that is so sad.”
