mlb

it may just be me but my opinion is that major league baseball is lousy except in two circumstances:

  1. see a game in person
  2. the playoffs

i do love the experience of watching a game in person. being there is great. it just doesn’t translate to tv at any other time except during the playoffs. even then it really just barely works until the championships. i love baseball and enjoy watching kids, high school, college, and pro games in person. it just doesn’t work for me on television.

i’ll take pro football, basketball and even hockey any day over baseball.

a good day

just thought i would record how cool of a day it has been. here is what the day has involved:

  • i ran the just run half marathon race today and had the fastest finishing time i have had in two years
  • walked my dogs about a mile and a half today – i love walking my basset hounds
  • received in the mail a new woot shirt.
  • cut the lawn – i love cutting grass
  • hung out and talked with my boys until they went to a concert with some friends
  • grabbed some sandwiches with my cute wife and went to pfiffner park for the stevens point riverfront jazzfest. we sat at the park with a few thousand people, watched the sunset, and listened to live jazz.
  • came home to find a live internet broadcast of the bama/vt game

it was really a fun day. i love point.

tapestry poker

i’m not a huge fan of poker. i don’t really have anything against it. i don’t think it is evil or anything like that. it’s just that i prefer hearts. still i love hanging out with threads and we have a fair number of guys in tapestry who love poker. so we’ve started playing poker on monday nights as a part of our monday night guys bible study. of course, being tapestry we’ve done it slightly different. everyone agrees that poker without money behind it is stupid. poker just isn’t fun without a loss or a gain. still, we don’t want to hinder anyone who might have a gambling problem. so we’ve decided that the game is limited to a $3 buy in and what we are playing for is the tax contribution credit. all the money will be used to support a kid through world vision and the winner of each week’s game is the one whose name the contribution is made under. that way the winner still gets something but there is no way that we can contribute to anyone’s gambling problem because no matter what everyone in the room on monday nights is walking away with $3 less.

i like the way we do things.

SIDE NOTE – my evil plan has been accomplished. pam really doesn’t like oprah. it’s a long story but the short version is that oprah just gets her goat. anyhow i found a free 6 month subscription to oprah’s magazine on lifehacker.com and now pam is subscribed to it. off course, pam didn’t know it until the magazine showed up in our mail box. it might not be funny to you but it made me laugh 🙂

the video message from sunday

since some of us are in nicaragua this week i thought i would try making a video for the message at tapestry this past sunday. above is the video. i’ll probably change a lot next time but this was at least a starting point.

our stone of helping

0802091846 copy 0802091852 copy

because of the washington elementary school’s gym floor being refinished tapestry couldn’t meet there tonight. therefore we went to iverson park and talked a little about what GOD has done over the past year. it’s been a pretty huge year for our little group that didn’t exist 11 months ago. so we talked about what GOD has done in and through tapestry since september ‘08. we talked about the people who have begun to explore faith in CHRIST and some who have come to faith in HIM. we talked about the $1,400 raised for clean water and attitudes that were changed through advent conspiracy. we talked about the the 8 in home care kits that were built by our little group of people following CHRIST. we talked about all the rooms that we painted at the hope center in an attempt to celebrate easter. we talked about all the acts of love, service, and faith that were made by threads on their own – as a part of their walk with CHRIST rather than a church program. then we grabbed stones wrote some reminders on them and built a cairn of reminders in the plover river (ala joshua 4:9).

it was a pretty cool night.

3 albums

i know that nobody comes to this blog for music suggestions but i thought i would post the three albums that are currently “floating my boat.” i tend to like folk music that has an edge and a little experimentation in it. so here are the ones that i find myself listening to over and over:

  • stockholm syndrome” by derek webb – yeah he obviously wanted to push his CHRISTian record label too far for the label’s taste but the album is very compelling
  • 1beginning” by lori chaffer – a solo project from the feminine half of the family that is now what remains of waterdeep – you can’t go wrong with anything from waterdeep – i don’t care who you are you have to love lori chaffer’s voice
  • jonas is back” by the krustry brothers – another waterdeep project. it is a lot of fun both lyrically and musically – good stuff

and that is the end of my musical recommendations at the moment. you may now go back to your normal lives.

in home care kits

just a few photos from putting together and delivering the in home care kits that tapestry contributed for hiv/aids victims in africa. the little faith community that we are honored to get to be a part of ended up contributing EIGHT at a cost pf right at $100 each. not bad for a new little church.

i’m a statistic now

yesterday i pulled into the local bp that has 79¢ diet cokes (oh yeah!). when i was entering the store a senior adult lady (i’m guessing around 80) asked if i could help her find her loaner car’s fuel catch release. she said her car was being worked on and she couldn’t figure out how to open the trap door that would let her refuel the loaner car. of course, i told her i would gladly help. i went over and looked in the usual areas. when that failed i bent over to look in the glove box. when i did that she suddenly said “is this it?” and reached over to push a button on the dash. of course, while she was doing this she rubbed across my buttocks!

that’s right an 80 year old lady may have fondled me!

i didn’t know how to respond to this possible violation so i simply said “you’re welcome” when she smiled and said “thanks.”

SIDE NOTE – PAM UPDATE – she’s doing very well. she’s not 100% but she is able to do a lot of what she would normally do. this means that she has been able to actually go to work this week but she has been completely worn out by the end of the day.

SIDE SIDE NOTE – with pam feeling better i’ve been able to get out more and therefore noah and i have gone fishing several evenings after supper. noah caught this 17” smallie this week.

an example

the one thing

the danish philosopher sören kierkegaard stated that purity of heart is to will one thing. i believe the above perch, that i caught while preaching at the blba youth camp, was pretty pure in its desire to eat. it is my belief that you have to be a pretty focused fish to attack a lure that is 90% of your own body mass.

just so you know that i can actually catch bigger fish i’ll post this photo of another fish that i caught at lake bird. this one is an 18” largemouth.
