recent movies

this is not going to be much of a post but i still thought i would put down a few thoughts concerning the movies i’ve seen with my family within the past week or so.

  • iron man – wow! what a great movie. one of the best super hero movies ever. tons of other people have said really good things concerning iron man and i can’t top them so i want even try. go read some real reviews and you’ll see that the movie is great.
  • prince caspian – not bad. i don’t think it was as good a rendition as the wardrobe was but it was still very true to the book (except for the kiss at the end) and that’s what was most important to me. reepicheep is amazing. he’s spot on for character but i would say his image should be a wee bit taller.
  • indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull – crap! enough said.
  • spamalot – yes i know this is a play but it’s so incredible that i just needed to say something. we took the boys to see it in minneapolis. it was every bit as good as when we saw it in nyc. it’s what a comedy should be. we laughed the entire night.

wordpress, mariokart, & desperate housewives

wordpress

i’ve upgraded the blog to wordpress 2.5.1 which now allows gravatars in the comments. if you have a gravatar and you place your email in the appropriate part of the comment (which you have to do because i don’t allow comments without emails) then your avatar shows up. it’s much easier than the other solution i had worked on.

mariokart

i went and bought it this morning. we are in the midst of grand prixing the day away. mariokart has always been one of the games that the whole family likes. even pam, the non-gaming member of the family, like mariokart.

desperate housewives

grandpa

the climate change commercial that has pat robertson and al sharpton on it scares me. not really because of anything that’s said, but because pat robertson looks just like grandpa on the adam’s family television show. somebody should have redone his make-up or something.

The Cookie Monster Confession

This is great. It’s a confession from the cookie monster concerning his problem with cookies and with people calling him a monster. It begins with:

Me know. Me have problem.

Me love cookies. Me tend to get out of control when me see cookies. Me know it not natural to react so strongly to cookies, but me have weakness. Me know me do wrong. Me know it isn’t normal. Me see disapproving looks. Me see stares. Me hurt inside.

It makes me laugh. You can read the entire post here at McSweeney’s.

hi res brushes

my desktop wallpaper at the moment
i know next to nothing about graphic design. i can take a decent photo every now and then and i can do some of the basics within photoshop. yet really knowing how to produce contemporary designs to communicate effectively is not really in my realm of expertise. this poises a problem for tapestry because we’re going to need a decent, convenient, inexpensive source of basic design. i hope that eventually this issues will be address by someone within the church who has the talent and desire t keep all that we publish looking good and consistent. for now i’ll be working on most of this stuff. this means that i have spent most of the day looking at sources of design examples and resources. i have fallen in love with hi res brushes for photoshop. they are quite cool. bittbox offers quite a few for free. the ones i like right now are:

between these and creative commons images that let me do derivations of them i hopefully will be able to produce some decent images. if anyone ones else (cough *brad*) has any inexpensive/free/open resources i would gladly except the information.

SIDE NOTE – i also love the church marketing sucks lab on flickr. it’s very helpful.
