graduation season

josh & megmeaghan posted the following comment on the blog earlier.

oh my friend….you are not doing to well on posting are you now?…I beleive this is something you need to work on. So that is why i, Meaghan Myrick, am here to encourage you on your postiginess, so you can become again, my favorite blogger….So…Your doing great but put in a little more efffort! and Keep trying buddy! and Dont slow down! and Im sure your next post will be so totally awesominaciously grandaciously interesting! (i’ve editted some exclamation marks because they were doing something funky with my computer)

meaghan, i’m sorry i haven’t posted in a few days and i hope this post lives up to your expectations. thanks for the encouragement.

the only excuse i have for not blogging recently is that it’s graduation season. for me this basically means watching people whom i love walk from one end of the stage to the other. i’ve been to three different graduation ceremonies during the past week, wasn’t able to go to ea’s graduation because of the 5th grade retreat i was on with my oldest son (which was fun), and i’ll hit another graduation tonight. the positive side of all this is that i’ve been able to see some families whom i love accomplish the goal of reaching graduation with their children. that’s a great thing. the only negative has been that i haven’t been able to post much – which is probably not really negative at all.

thus far the most enjoyable graduation ceremony that i have been to was denham springs high school’s. the main reason for this was because it is the only graduation ceremony that had concession stands open for the service. i’ve been to many a graduation ceremony over 15 years of youth ministry and up until going to denham springs graduation this year i had never seen a concession stand open for a service. i love denham springs. they have the right idea. if you have to sit through a graduation service why not sit through it with a hot dog? in fact, i love this idea so much that when i go to parkview’s graduation tonight i might just bring myself some nachos for the evening.

those who were at the view last night know this news already so i write this post for those who couldn’t be there last night. i have sad news … last night “the throne” was accidentally broken. i know you’re probably in shock. i promise it will be okay.

some of the readers of this blog live outside of the baton rouge metro region and thus don’t attend parkview and never have had any experience with “the throne” so let me explain what is so special about it. the beginning of the summer of 2002 we decided within the youth ministry to have a little fun before each week’s “view.” so every week we planned a series of odd games to take place before “the view” actually began. i wanted to keep the games separate form “the view” because they just didn’t fit the character of what we do on wednesdays (though we play quite a bit at other times). i didn’t want to turn the games into a big, major thing so we all decided that the reward for winning the games so be very large. the idea that came up was that whoever won the games each week would be declared the “king” or “queen” of the evening and thus be allowed to sit on a throne. so we went and got a new toilet donated to us which we quickly painted gold. “the throne” then just simply became a part of the youth ministry playing different roles within the youth ministry – it went on trips with us as a mascot, it served as a “candy jar” within the office, and it was an extra seat when ever it was needed. it last four years until last night someone got up from sitting on it and it feel backwards.alycia-throne

now it’s not a total loss though because the only part that broke was the reservoir (the back). thus we still have half of “the throne” that has survived. we’ll buy “the throne” a prosthetic reservoir and it should be almost as good as new. i’m just so thankful that we didn’t lose the whole thing. that would have been a tragedy.

if you have a “throne” story you might want to share it in the “comments”.

p.s. yes, i know that alycia will probably kill me for putting up this picture of her on “the throne” but i can live with that since she hasn’t been practicing guitar. now practice alycia, practice!

worship tomorrow

mortuary last supper #3i figure i would make sure y’all new that the youth praise band (those who shall remain nameless – a name that i gave to them because they never would figure out a name and one that i now like) will be playing in the old gym service tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. does anybody have in worship songs that they absolutely want to sing? now would be the time to suggest – though there are not promises that we will sing it.

last night

i thought the ladies and gents who helped set-up and arrange the view last night did a great job. it was a fantastic night and a large part of that was because of your labor and concern. i am continually amazed by what you guys do.

thanks for the invite

fca crawfish boil - laurafca crawfish boil - lauren
laura & lauren invited me to come speak at a crawfish boil that their f.c.a. was putting on. ultimately they decided that they didn’t really need a speaker for the event but i still got to eat crawfish. so anytime any of your school’s have a crawfish boil and you need someone to just show up and eat “mud bugs” let me know. i will be glad to help.

beautiful feet photo pool

meaghan is the first person to add some pictures to the beautiful feet photo pool on flickr. if you went to on the beautiful feet trip and took pictures please consider adding them to the group. it’s really easy and by doing so we all get to enjoy them. if you have trouble joining the group or adding pictures just contact me and i’ll walk you through the process.

tomorrow

just figured i would let everyone know that riley, blaine, and john will be leading worship in the “old-gym” service tomorrow morning. if you have a chance it would be great to be there to support them.

SIDE NOTE – for those who are worried about the status of my ipod i would like to inform you that it is presently in indianapolis, indiana. i think that’s pretty good traveling considering the fact that it was in china on the 8th.

second again

i know i predicted this yesterday but i figured i would go ahead and make it official since the game last night … i got second in our “march madness” bracket competition with sparks getting first place by 1 point. here are the results:

    steven sparks – 249 – 38 games correct
    me – 248 – 37 games correct
    eddie hirst – 247 – 36 games correct
    sam jones – 237 – 36 games correct
    stephen ware- 237 – 35 games correct
    stephen miller – 220 – 36 games correct
    t lusk – 219 – 34 games correct
    kevin lee – 189 – 34 games correct
    blake wallace – 168 – 31 games correct

almost but no cigar

i figured i would calm all of you who have been worried about how i was doing in my march madness bracket. my come back from 7th placed started this past weekend and i have good news and bad news to report. the good news is that i did dramatically pull up in the rankings. the bad news is that i will miss winning the bracket for the first time in three years. no matter who wins tonight (hopefully north carolina will win) sparks will beat me for the lead by ONE POINT. thus i will end in second place. so close yet so far away.

so sparks where do you want to go eat?

beautiful (pictures) mission trip

beautiful feet 2005
please don’t think that i mean to suggest by my entry title that my pictures are beautiful. instead, i’m playing off the name of the church “beautiful feet”. anyways, i’ve setup a photo pool on flickr so that everyone can share their pictures. i’ve placed 43 of mine thus far. you can view them here.

i’lll summarize the trip when i’m a little less tired (maybe tonight). needless to say it was amazing.

SIDE NOTE – if you are already a member of flickr or would like to join flickr then you can join the beautiful feet photo group and add your own pictures.
