i’m posting this for my oldest son and friends who love doctor who. this is simple, brilliant, and completely funny to anyone who knows the show (which basically means everyone in the UK and geeks in the US).
opportunity to love
hey threads. as a church we have a couple of opportunities to love on our neighbors by providing meals.
- eric & natalie glaze’s neighbors are about to give birth (actually only the female is but we’ll give a little credit to the guy). they don’t have any family around point so the glazes asked if they would like some help with meals after their baby is born. they were thrilled. she is a vegetarian/almost vegan while he is a slightly picky omnivore. we’re looking for people who would provide different meals that are friendly to both. interested? either contact the glazes or me and i will put you in contact with them.
- the faxons are about to gain a few more kids (which is saying something considering how many they already have). they have a friend who is going through chemo and his kids can’t be around him or his wife for reasons of contagion. therefore the faxons will be keeping the three kids for a while. it would be cool to help with some meals for the faxons while the kids are there and then the family when he is through with his treatment. this will mean feeding 11 people. their friends are islamic so this means we will need to try and make the food halal (angel has some instructions concerning this). we have a little time before this starts (june) but we need to start planning now. the faxons might also need some help with getting one of the children to school every now and then.
ladies and gents this is what the church does. let’s get to it.
makes me hope
after quite a few conversations andy l and i have decided to really move forward on something we have been talking/dreaming about – doing a ted talk/q-ish day conference in point concerning faith and culture. i can’t really discuss too many details right now because we are really just at the initial stage of doing this thing. you will hopefully hear more soon. i can say that the drawing below is the gist of today’s conversation.
i post the above video because it is part of what i love about ted talks and q that i hope to bring to whatever we do – big ideas that make us think differently and move us to action. i’ve shared this video of bobby mcferrin three different times in the past two days because i think it is a good example of what i hope will happen with whatever we end up trying. brilliant.
need a pair of sunglasses?
i tend to blaze through sunglasses. i always have. i have left sunglasses on my car bumper and then accidentally run them over. i have dropped pairs of sunglasses into lakes and rivers only to see them slowly fall into the deep. i have busted the lens of sunglasses on tree branches and other objects. i just tend to be rough on sunglasses. a long time ago i actually bought a few expensive pairs of sunglasses but they never seemed to last any longer than the cheap pairs so i now just stick with inexpensive sunglasses. it just works better for me this way.
two days ago i decided to buy a pair of fishing sunglasses from amazon. i can’t presently find the pair that i had been using for the past year and a half. on amazon i found a pair of key largo polarized sunglasses
there is a decent chance that i might not have to worry very much about sunglasses for quite some time. anyone need a pair of sunglasses?

creative dress
i just heard a story on npr concerning a girl in missouri her made her own prom dress out of cardboard. the photo above is the creator of the dress modeling it. in my opinion the dress looks pretty nice. turns out she has done this several times before. she made one out of can pop tabs that i am particularly impressed by because i have to imagine the same amount of work is required for working with pop tabs as is involved in making chainmail. anyhow, i love the fact that she took her prom as an opportunity to display a part of her real self (i.e. in this case her creativity and skill) rather than just an opportunity to show skin.

the most dangerous terrell
i don’t really know how this has worked out but roux, the youngest basset hound in the family, is considered by the other members of the terrell house as the grumpiest member of the family WHEN oreo, our cat, is the only member of the family who has ever injured anyone. actually that is an understatement because oreo regularly hurts people. bites and scratches are a weekly manner. pam says that oreo is just playing but i don’t think play normally involves blood. i think roux has received a bad rap.
