human?

i’m preaching at church this sunday and i thought i would deal with the “imagio die” – the image of GOD mentioned in genesis 1:26-27:

26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

traditionally within CHRISTian thought the “imagio de”i has been considered what makes us human. so we have to ask the question what exactly is the image of GOD within us? or another way of asking is to ask “what exactly makes us human?” so i figured i would ask y’all.

this is your chance to be a part of the sermon. what do you think makes us human? or what is the image of GOD?

i thought you guys would like to know that our experience at the shelter at southern university as fantastic. it went so well that the shelter manager wanted to change our plans. originally megan kelly was going to organize other people to help on different days. today’s activities with the kids went so well the manager asked that we just make sure that we keep coming. he wants the kids seeing our faces and getting to know the same people. so we’ll keep being a part of their lives.

the jason’s deli experience was just as good. the manager of jason’s deli stop pam, my wife, and told her that they wouldn’t have been able to make the 10,000 meals for the electrical workers if it had not been for our volunteers.

two days down – SIX WEEKS TOL GO. keep on volunteering. we will leave for southern and jason’s tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.

i also figured you would like to know that our church is now playing host to 100 electrical workers. the past three days these guys have been sleeping in their electrical trucks. now they’re sleeping in our gym. when you see them sunday try to encourage them.

forecast

one of the things i love about bloglines is that everyday it sends me a weather forecast for the next seven days. i don’t remember today’s forecast saying that during the 9:30 a.m. worship/sunday school hour it would blow down a large oak branch on two cars in the church parking lot but it did say that it would rain. i guess that’s a good enough forecast. how would you like to walk out of church and see that your car had just been crushed by a random falling oak branch?

lazy

sorry to have disappointed my two loyal fans (hey mom, hey dad) and not have written anything in the blog but i’ve been away on a church staff retreat until tonight and therefore i haven’t been able to type anything in the blog. i haven’t forgotten about the yellow jacket situation. it’s just that i haven’t taken care of the problem yet and i feel as though i shouldn’t write about that until i have solved the situation. it will be solved by thursday night because that bush and all it’s small flying friends are going down.

the retreat was very good. i can’t really write about any of the stuff discussed during it but it was still good. two things are worth mentioning. 1) bill pruitt found a tennis racket type electrical device that i believe to be a hand-held electic fly swatter. this proved to be quite enjoyable for me but not for any of the other people around me who for some reason kept getting zapped by the thing. 🙂 2) we went to a resturant monday night that listed on it’s menu a “buttload of wings”. i asked the waitress how big a “buttload of wings” was but she didn’t have a very definate answer. i guess it depends upon who’s butt it’s being measured by. i thought the whole thing was very funny. the waitress apparently didn’t. i think she spat in my food.

now, i will stop avoiding working on my chapel message and get back to work. good night all.
