gmail chatting

last night i gmail chatted for the first time. once again gmail rocks. i’m not much into IMing. in fact, i pretty much hate it. yet, it is cool to know that i could chat with someone through my email page (i.e. gmail.google.com) if i wanted to. in the case of last night it was pam and she was twenty feet away from me. still it was cool to try it out.

i just thought i would throw this out there because i love gmail.

here are the websites that i use the most:

  • google – the best search engine for my uses.
  • gmail – google’s email
  • flickr – almost certainly the best online photo management and sharing application in the world.
  • del.icio.us – social bookmarking
  • library thing – social library catologing
  • lifehacker – don’t live to geek; geek to live.
  • technorati – blog searching
  • bloglines – rss aggregator
  • ebible – a social approach to the bible
  • wikipedia – massive, collaborative online encyclopedia
  • youtube – a great source for humor, shows, clips, trailers, etc.
  • cool running – a great source for running information
  • wordpress – okay, i don’t really go to this site very often but wordpress is the blogging code that i use for both this blog and the youth ministry site so i figured i would throw it is since i visit my blog and the youth ministry website very often.

my run for the day
distance – 3.5 miles
total time – 32:21
pace – 9:14/mile

change of the website

sometime within the next 48 hours the youth ministry website and this blog will shut down for awhile (“awhile” basically means 2 – 3 days in this situation). i’ve been running the youth ministry wesbite off the same deal i obtained 5 years ago. things have changed and the deal is suddenly allot sweeter (more space for podcasting, sub domains, etc). of course, to get this deal the company has to transfer stuff for me and thus the site will be down for awhile.

this is a test. if this were an actual emergency you would have been sent to a blog that actually made sense.

i’m trying out w.bloggar as a desktop blog client. this is a test to see if i have it configured right. i’ve been using marsedit on my powerbook and i like it allot. it gives me the ability to work on my posts offline and then post them later. the problem is that i’m using marsedit on a trial basis and trial is about to end. being my father’s son i am too cheap to actually buy the software. this means that i need to something that does basically the same thing but is free (and works on the windows based machine at church). therefore, i am trying w.bloggar now until marsedit is given away for free.

firefox is amazing

over the past few weeks i have found a new reason to love firefox. that new reason is called grease monkey. grease monkey is an extension to firefox that allows people to write and use scripts that improve how the browser works on various websites.

for example, i use one that makes it possible for me to get the link code to a specific image without having to go through several other pages, another that highlights which discussion threads i have been posting in and which ones have been updated, and finally another that automatically uses google maps to geotag my images.

if you look around i’m sure you will find some computer genius you has written a scrip to make surfing your favorite site easier. i love this.
