episode iii review

episode iii part 1
i’ve now seen star wars episode iii: revenge of the sith twice (once this morning at 12:02 a.m. and once this afternoon at 2:00 p.m.) and i now feel like i can make a few comments concerning the movie.

  • it was a decent movie (much better than episode i and slightly better than episode ii) but it still doesn’t even come close to episodes iv and v (episode vi is too close to call in my opinion).
  • while impressive in technology and story aspects lucas stinks at dialogue. the worst scenes within the movie were when they stopped to talk. i laughed at almost every scene between padme and vader. lucas should never write a love story. it would simply be too cheesy. anytime lucas tried to add “depth” to the film it just sounded stupid. for instance read this dialouge: vader – “if your not for me … you’re my enemy!” obi wan – “only sith deal in absolutes!” hmmmm? is that an absolute that only sith deal in absolutes?
  • obi wan is “the man” of star wars – within the movies he defeats darth maul and darth vader while anakin/vader defeats dooku and the emperor (wtih help from from luke on the emperor).
  • watching a movie with a full theater that is really into a movie is much better than watching it with a crowd that is sort of in to it – last night people cheered and laughed out loud while this afternoon there simply wasn’t much involvement within the movie.

anyhow it was nice to see the story ended.
episode iii part 2

the force

i leave in a little while to go see “star wars episode iii: revenge of the sith“. i’m going to the 12:02 a.m. showing with arnold. i’m pretty excited. i sure hope lucas doesn’t screw this up.

moving up in the world

audrey was on the elvis miniseries sunday night. you could only see half of her face but it was still her face that was at least half way visible. it would appear that we have our first celebrity that is actually connected with the youth ministry. that’s exciting even though i guess we now have to turn all snobby and such.

so starting from this point in time i am going to be more selective about who is allowed to read this blog – after all we have produced a celebrity now and we must have higher standards. so before you read this blog i would like for each of you to send me an email answering the following questions:

  • are you better looking than everyone else?
  • are you smarter than everyone else?
  • does everyone else want to be like you?
  • does everyone else’s parents like you more than they do their own kids?
  • do you smell nice even when you sweat?
  • does everyone else’s pet (dog, cat, hamster, etc.) like you better than it does its owner?
  • do your teachers give you good grades just because they think you should receive good grades automatically?
  • do you drive a better car or bicycle than everyone else?

i know these are hard standards but we are now a celebrity producing youth ministry and therefore we have to be careful. just send your answers to me and if you answer “yes” to all the questions i’ll direct you to a more suitable blog for your perfection. if you answer “no” to any of them then please feel welcome here – we’e your kind of people. i love being the youth minister at a church where our celebrity only gets half her face shown in the movie.

elvis miniseries celebrity

hey guys & girls watch real closely when you are viewing the end of the elvis miniseries wednesday night (after church of course) because one of our own is an extra within the made for t.v. movie. audrey fort (who graduated last year and is now a student at tulane) is an extra within the movie. keep your eyes peeled for her.

SIDE NOTE – this is post number 366 which means i am now working on my second year’s worth of posts (365 posts equalling one year’s worth).

they better not screw this one up

i can’t wait until december 9th because not only is it four days before my youngest son’s birthday but it is also the release date for the theatrical interpretation of c.s. lewis’ book “the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe.” here’s the trailer for it. i believe it looks pretty good but of course, it’s only a trailer and the quality of a trailer doesn’t always reflect the quality of the movie.

elvis, elivs, let me be

i’m presently watching the elvis miniseries on cbs and thirty minutes into it they have already used the following stereotypical elvis sayings:

  • “thank you, thank you very much”
  • “elvis has left the building”

i’m thinking this is going to be a little cheesy.

anyhow, pam, the boys & i spent the weekend in mobile celebrating our mothers (hi mom). it was a great weekend. for those who were a part of this year’s disciplenow you will remember andy neely. pam and i ate with andy and ellen and they say “hey.”

hero

i watched “hero” last night and was amazed. it seems that asian film making is doing a much better job of making action/hero movies. the asian films that make it over here in the western market have action, beauty, and meaning. consider “hero” and an older movie “crouching tiger, hidden dragon” next to any of the recent western action films and you’ll see what i mean. both of these movies have amazing fight scenes within them, but they also have beauty and depth. i haven’t seen “house of flying daggers” yet but i have heard it is along the same lines. i not real sure where “kung fu hustle” fits into this scheme.

of course, it helps that i cheat and watch these movies on my dvd player with the english language dubbed in over the mandarin. i’m such a wimp.

born into brothels

i just finished watching “born into brothels” and all i can say is “my word”. it’s harsh and just because of the nature of the world in which these kids live there are some very rough scenes within the movie. the sadest thing to me was knowing from international justice mission reports that the kids shown in the movie aren’t even in the roughest spots. compared to some of the kids in in rougher brothels these kids were lucky (which is definitely not saying much but i would never consider the kids in the movie as “lucky”).

we followers of CHRIST are supposed to be GOD’s answer to this mess and we have to be about making a difference in situations like this. please consider helping the “international justice mission“.

the simpsons

i’m presently watching the simpsons episode “a street car named marge” and it displays why the simpsons are the greatest. the episode is a musical remake of a street car named desire. while this is going on there is another theme of maggie acting out rendition of “the great escape” within a childcare nursery. i mean really how great is that.
