julius caeser?

julius caesar?
while i was up at church today printing directions to get to sherwood baptist church i went to the bathroom only to run into the above scene. these guys from parkview high school were filming in the bathroom – something i thought was very odd. they told me that they were filming a remake of william shakespeare’s “julius caeser”. this was the scene where the senate meets together to discuss killing caeser. i thought the whole thing was quite funny. my personal favorite is the guy in the sombrero and mask.

they’re wearing what?

i love driving my kids home after school. we always have the best conversations in my truck on our way back home. today we were talking about various normal things on our normal route home when adam said something that freaked me out. he asked one simple question … “dad, why are there men on top of the shenandoah elementary school roof wearing white robes and putting on white hoods?” i slammed on my brakes and screamed “they were wearing what?”

as a group the klu klux klann simply infuriates me. we live in a world that has plenty of evil in it but the k.k.k. is one of the groups that drives me the craziest. to my knowledge i don’t actually know anybody in the k.k.k. and i’ve never had any first hand experience with them but that group just causes my blood to boil. maybe it’s because the first church i ever worked at was a black church. maybe it’s that they take the image of my faith and turn it into an image of hate. maybe it’s the fact that i believe treating someone created in the image of GOD as inferior is one of the worst things you can ever do. whatever the reason the the k.k.k. infuriates me and thus hearing adam’s description of what the people on the roof were wearing i had to do something. i did a “u”ie and headed back to the school to face the vermin.

i’m not real sure what i thought i was going to do. i mean i had my kids with me. really, it’s not like i could have said “leave this place or i’m going to make you leave, only please leave my kids out of this.” of course, i wasn’t thinking real straight. all i knew was that evil was visibly present in my neighborhood and i had to do something about it. i sped back to the school blind with rage. i was so blind in fact that i turned in the wrong direction of the one-way school parking lot. it was in that parking lot that i saw my enemy.

did you know that painters often wear white coveralls and white hats? it appears that shenandoah elementary’s awning is being painted and there are a bunch of painters dressed in white working on the roof. i really don’t think the painters appreciated me yelling at them but i was still blind with rage.

politics as normal

finally there’s a man running for political office that we can all get behind. he’s name is rob outhouse! i kid you not. a guy with the last name of outhouse ran for the position of sheriff in cayuga county, new york. i guess you could say that sheriff outhouse is one politician who is definitely “full of it.”

SIDE NOTE – since my camera’s battery died i don’t have pictures of the worship stations at the view last night but once again they were amazing. i’ve loved everything you guys and girls have done as a part of “the view.”

not a happy clown

clown
the above picture is all that i have to remember the horrific episode that happened yesterday. i have set myself a flickr goal of posting one decent picture a day on flickr (i’m not sure that i could say any of my pictures are “good picutres” so i’ve set my goal for merely decent). this wouldn’t be to terribly hard if i could use all the pictures that i have taken over my life but that’s not part of the bargain i made with myself. the deal i made was that i could only use one “old” picture a week. all the other pictures had to be taken during the week in which i was posting. this means i have to take pictures constantly in order to get just a few that have the relatively high for me rank of “decent.”

yesterday i was blank on decent pictures. i didn’t have any “decent” non-posted pictures from the week waiting in the background ready to be placed on the photoblog. so i had to go on a picture hunt. i decided that i would go take so pictures down at the state capitol building. i figured that even on a gloomy day the statues around the capitol would look cool. i was wrong! the day was simply “bla” and i couldn’t find a good shot (this is where the difference between me and a good photographer becomes obvious – someone with skill would fid a great shot on such a terrible day). to make things even worse i had a horrific event happen on the way down to the capitol.

on the way down to the capitol i saw a clown in full costume driving on tiger bend street. i figured this would be a great shot. i mean really who wouldn’t love a picture of a clown driving through the streets of baton rouge. so i rolled down my window, started honking, and began shouting at the clown. i was holding my camera out with my free hand and screaming “i want to take your picture! please let me take your picture.” the female clown must not have heard me because her car sped up away from me. so i pressed the accelartor pedal and caught up. i started screaming again and but then the clown’s car slowed down. she must have been having some car trouble or something. so i slowed down till the clown’s car caught up with me again. once again, i started screaming and waving my camera. all i wanted was a picture of the clown in her car driving. for some reason this offended her because the next thing i knew she stared right at me and flipped me off.

that’s right the clown gave me “the bird.”

after flipping me off the she pulled into the turning lane and turned down jones creek road and out of my life. the above picture was all i was able to get as i sat in stunned silence. you’re barely even able to see the stupid clown in the picture. i hate clowns.

napolean dynamite

the skit guys have taken some napoleon dynamite footage and green screened themselves into it to do their own little farce skit. it’s pretty good. here it is.

the cool thing is that my new video editing software now allows me to do “green screen” effects. of course, i have to get a green screen in order to do these but i can at least say that i could do the effects if i wanted to. who knows what new worlds of video this will open up to us for sundays and wednesdays?

baby got book

i normally think this stuff is cheesy but i personally find this video hilarious. it’s called baby got book” and it is a paraody of sir mix-a-lot’s song “baby got back.” connecting to it is pretty hard right now because too many people are watching it and it’s crashing the server. if it works it definitely worth it. if it doesn’t work then just enjoy knowing that it made me, jessica, alan, and josh laugh out loud.

random chinese arts

random chinese artsi made it back from dropping my kids off in mobile for the weekend early this afternoon. before going home i wanted to go to the church and download my pictures that i took at the beginning of the feminar friday night (the student ministry’s girls only mini-retreat). so i headed down sherwood forest towards the church. that’s where i saw a chinese arts festival being held in front of a strip mall. the only connection i can think of is that the hunan chinese restaurant is located in the strip mall.

i thought it was cool and decided to stop and watch. i have to say that there is nothing quite like watching a bunch of anglos demonstrate chinese culture (almost everyone involved in the program was anglo). there was kung fu, music, asian dancing, and big freaky dragon things. i stayed and watched for about thirty minutes and then left. who knew that baton rouge was the seat of chinese culture?

here are a few more pictures from the strip mall chinese culture thingy – picture #1, picture #2, picture #3, and picture #4. you can also view my pictures from the feminar here.
