of whoever first came up with the idea of these signs.

double finish

i finished two things yesterday. first, the regular season of the curling league that i belong to. we did pretty well. in fact, we either finished first or second for our league night. we’ll find out after the score of the other team is known. if they lost then we tied them for first and will play off to see who goes to the club championships. if they won then there is no post season for us. still it was fun. i’ll definitely be doing this again next season (even if debbie says that curling has ruined my youngest child).

the second thing i finished was my application to the d.min program at new orleans seminary. its a butt load of work for a simple application. i ended up writing a 18 page essay for the thing. now i am just waiting for my recommendations to be sent in and the final interview.

otherwise everything is pretty boring.

bracket

since everyone who expressed interest in being a part of a ncaa bracket (either by comment or email) is already on facebook i just decided to do the bracket through cbs sportsline brackets. you can join by going to my profile or looking up the bracket application on facebook.

random quote – fame

with fame i become more and more stupid, which of course is a very common phenomenon.

hope

has anyone else notice how often the word hope is occurring within popular culture? obviously barak obama is mentioning hope a lot but i’ve also been seeing hope pop up in commercials and various writings. i’ve always heard that karl barth said that a sermon should be written “with the bible in one hand and a newspaper in the other” (i have no reference for this). his point was that if we really believed that JESUS is the answer then we should be constantly searching for what questions the culture was asking that HE would be the answer to. i’m not preaching anywhere right now but if i was the newspaper in my “other hand” seems to indicate that hope would be a good thing to discuss.

random quote – starting

the miracle isn’t that i finished. the miracle is that i had the courage to start.

vd cards

if you are about to end your dating relationship then you might want to use one of the bitter valentine’s day cards that woot released today. of course, you might also want to look at them if you just need a good laugh. here they are.

halftime

no commentary here but it would be really nice if the giants could win. sorry debbie but i can’t pull for the patriots. it’s an underdog thing. i have to pull for the underdog (unless, of course, its’s against one of my teams).

winter wonderland

more snow - #21/366 Jan 21, 2008
my family and i live in a postcard. we’re getting another 5-6″ of snow today & tonight. it’s absolutely gorgeous. when we moved up to central wisconsin from southern louisiana we had a large number of people around here question why we would want to move from a warm area to a land that has such harsh winters. i could see where the snow might get a little old in april but right now it’s amazing. when i walk or run i find myself staring in a amazement at how pretty the area is that GOD has moved us to. a little cold is well worth putting up with in order to live in such a beautiful area.
