CHRISTmas hot drink night @ the terrell’s

just wanted to remind everyone that it’s tapestry’s CHRISTmas hot drink night at the terrell’s tomorrow night. this means that we will have coffee, hot chocolate, wassail (oh yeah wassail – whatever that is), etc. we’ll also have some finger foods and decently nice people to hang around with. it’s from 6:30-9:00p.m. and it’s come and go so just show up whenever you can. the address is 3311 arbor vitae lane, plover (i’m so nice i’ve even included a google maps link for you here). i’ll be at debot circle at 6:00 pm to pick up anyone who needs a ride. if you do need a ride please message me just so i know that i have enough space in our sexy silver minivan. if you know of someone else who would like to come over then bring ’em. the more the merry is what pam and i think.

if you want to bring gloves or socks to donate to operation bootstrap that would be cool but you don’t have too.

the gobo sign

the tapestry sign problem has basically been solved now.

as i posted before the signage i purchased for tapestry has been rendered null and void by the fact that it is dark in stevens point by the time we start our gatherings. if you were trying to find tapestry based on signs you were out of luck. this is a problem because i would like for new people to come to tapestry.

DSC_0010_edited-1today i received the answer to our problem. it’s a gobo (i received the projector for the gobo last week). the gobo is a a small image engraved onto mirrored glass (seen to the right) that is then projected through to place the image on a flat surface. i tried the projector out last week with one of the sample gobo’s they sent along with the projector (i used the sample gobo that read “welcome” because it seemed liked a better fit than the one that read “on sale”). today the real gobo arrived and we will be ready to rock and roll come sunday. once it is put into position it will be about 10’ across and very visible from the road.

here’s what it looks like when used in the man cave.

of course, now i have to build a weather proof shelter for the projector. i tried the projector out last sunday and the light doesn’t act very friendly with snow.

firefly on hulu

i first watched firefly on dvd in 2006. if you are a sci-fi fan then it’s a great series. i found it on hulu a couple of weeks ago and i’ve been slowly watching it again. it really is a wonderful series and it is yet another reason that i really like hulu.

q ideas

this is just me thinking out loud and so nothing will probably come of it.

in order to keep things fresh i need to be exposed to new ideas at least annually. for me in the past this has meant conferences. therefore, i’m looking into a conference for next year. the one that i find intriguing right now is q 2009. i heard it mentioned today during an advent conspiracy podcast and i thought it sounded very interesting. then i went to the website and my interested was piqued even more. it’s a conference that is designed with conversation and participation at its core. 18 minute presentations are made by some experts in the presentation’s area and then the group responds. it could be a great thing.

so i was wondering if anyone else might be going or at least interested in going to this thing. a little company would be fun.

THANK YOU!

just wanted to give a blog shout out to ben sheets. ben and good shepherd lutheran church gave me a snow blower today. woohoo! the blower was sitting in the shed and they had no use for it so ben apparently thought “why not put this thing to use by giving it to someone else” and i was the recipient. i like thoughts like that.

thanks ben and good shepherd.

the snow has arrived

roux 7 the snow

a decent amount of snow has finally hit the point area. now if we could only get a few more inches then the terrell family can go cross-country skiing.

our little copper tree – week three

i posted about our copper charlie brown tree earlier. i’ve been trying to improve it a little each week. this week i gave it lights. oh yeah, i continually pull out all the stops. sometimes i even impress myself.

the useless sign

last week i discovered that our outdoor church signs have been made meaningless by the darkness. as many of you know tapestry meets at night. it makes for a wonderful sunday and our signs work great during daylight savings time. during daylight savings time it’s very well lite at 6 p.m. and is usually still daylight when we get out at 7:15 p.m. but that’s not true when daylight saving time ends. tonight sunset was at 4:19 p.m. in stevens point. this means that our non-lighted outdoor signs are useless. pam told me about this situation two weeks ago (i’m usually inside getting things ready and don’t get to see the signs) and then i noticed it on my own last week. the signs were not visible at all.

then i had what i thought was a brilliant idea. i determined that we could use a gobo projector to shoot a sign on the school wall. it would be visible, portable, cool, and decently inexpensive (i’m all about the cheap aspect). the gobo projector will take a few weeks to get to us but it will be here soon. to tide us over i thought of the tripod flashlights you can buy. i remember these from their commercial with an alien using one to fix its spaceship (sometimes advertising does work). i realized i could get two of these and project light onto our street sign so it would be visible. i thought it was brilliant.

then the snow came.

the snow trashed my wonderful idea. 15 minutes before the worship assembly the sign was completely covered in snow. it was very well lite snow but it was still snow. if you were real close to the sign you could make out what it said but if you were more than 20’ away all you saw was a well lite placard of snow. i felt a little like crying in defeat.
