he passed

adam before his spring formal

years ago the terrell household started a birthday tradition of quizzing the birthday kid. pam and i figured that there are some important things that a kid should learn during any given year of life. therefore, on each child’s birthday that child is quizzed to determined whether he know these things or not. if the child doesn’t pass the quiz then he is relegated to live the previous year over again in hopes that he will learn the right things.

today is adam’s birthday and therefore during supper pam and i started the birthday quiz. the questions revolve around things that we believe are important to being a terrell and a human. the questions vary but here are a few that occur every year.

  • what are the 4 things that a real man does?
  • loves GOD
  • loves his family
  • protects women
  • protects those who are weaker than him
  • what is the only band that matters?
  • what are the 4 things that a real man has on him at all legal times to solve problems?
    • a pen
    • a bandaide
    • a knife
    • a phone/calling card
  • if you were stranded on a deserted island with a portable dvd player, a solar charger, and 1 dvd, which dvd would you want to have?
  • whose mr. darcy portrayal is the best (this is pam’s question – definitely not mine)?
  • they’re simple questions but they are things that we believe are important to being a terrell guy of a certain age.

i’m proud to announce that adam has passed his 16th test and is now officially a 16 year old. he’ll be taking another test for the state of wisconsin concerning whether they trust him to drive or not next week. i’m sure he will pass that too.

i can’t let her be that woman

    Persian_Kittens_stroller

i saw a lady in our neighborhood pushing one of these down our street today. that’s right she had placed her cat in a caged off stroller for the purpose of taking the cat on a walk around the block (as a dog owner ethics i will not link to the awful device). while i usually would applaud anything that encourages a person to exercise i simply cannot encourage this. THIS IS WRONG!

the potential of pamela using one of these is scary to me. pam has told me before that one of her goals is to eventually become to “crazy, old, cat lady.” if i pass away too soon she might actually use one of these to walk our two cats around the neighborhood. this cannot be allowed to happen.

yet another reason that i run … to prevent pam from becoming that lady.

you might be wondering what a female basset hound likes to eat

    montana

the answer tonight was definitely half of my share of pizza when i had turned my back. stupid dog. 😉

    pam – the impressive wife

    pam

thoses of you who know pam know that i definitely married above myself. she’s smart, cute, and GODly. i’m proud to belong to her. i thought i would share with you guys and girls that read this little blog of mine that earlier today pam left for an operation smile project in nicaragua. she has been on several operation smile projects before and wasn’t planning on going on this one but the speech pathologist that was going on the trip broke one of her legs. this means the project was short a speech pathologist, a very important part of the team when dealing with cleft palate repair.

if there’s something weird and it don’t look good, who you gonna call? pam terrell apparently 🙂

anyhow, on her first operation smile trip pam kept everyone updated concerning how the project was going via a blog. she’s decided to do it again which means you can follow her adventure by going here. i’m pretty much always proud of her.

    tubing @ sylvan park

the above shows what the terrells and our friends the turners did last night. it is sylvan tubing park in wausau and i would HIGHLY recommend it. $7.50 for your lift tag and equipment and all the tubing you can handle. it was amazing. woohoo!

    a terrell family CHRISTmas

so the boys are a sleep, the gifts have been placed out, and pam and i are settling down for a “long winter’s nap.” i thought before i go to bed i would write about our CHRISTmas traditions. we hae some set patterns for CHRISTmas eve and CHRISTmas that have been a part of our family since the boys were very young.

    CHRISTmas eve

    • supper – everyone gets to pick their favorite appetizer and we eat all of it together. it’s a simple meal that is fun for everyone. it works real well in rushing to eat after the CHRISTmas eve church service.
    • movie – we all watch “CHRISTmas vacation” together. what a fun movie.
    • read the CHRISTmas story from the gospel of luke.
    • the boys get to open 3 presents. every year we give them a new CHRISTmas tree ornament and pajamas. we also allowed them to open the gift that they give to each other. here are the ornaments and pajamas from this year: adam – nightmare before CHRISTmas ornament & sponebob pajamas; noah – espn sports center ornament & superman pajamas. adam gave noah a “signed” photo of uga (the georgia mascot – noah is a huge goergia fan) and noah gave adam an itunes gift card – adam likes the music.
    • when the boys go to sleep the gifts are placed out from santa and pam and i go to bed.

    CHRISTmas day

    • the boys are not allowed to wake us up until 7 a.m. we had to start this rule because noah would wake up at 3 a.m. and be ready to open gifts.
    • CHRISTmas lunch is pastalaya. it’s good stuff and it will be even better because we’ll share it with a couple of friends this year.
    • movie – the family (and hopefully our two friends) go to a movie at the theater.

    day after CHRISTmas

    • travel to alabama

the above are the typical things that happen. i hope your CHRISTmas is full of friends, family, and fun. i also hope that you encounter CHRIST in someone who joins you for your celebrations.

    he's driving

    adam
the terrell family went through a pretty major change today – adam acquired his temporary license. this means we have six months of him driving with us and then he moves up to testing for a regular (minor’s) driver’s license. wow, i feel old.

SIDE NOTE – i know i haven’t been writing much on this blog over the past month. that is about to change.

yes i am a proud parent

how adam and some of his friends wanted to spend saturday night.

    rolling in it

with basset hounds it is always easy to determine when something disgusting has died and begun to rot in your yard. if the bassets are joyously rolling in it then it is probably a smell that you do not want to be near or have on them when they come back into the house.

sorry for not posting much recently. life has been a little busy around the terrell household with pam’s back surgery. it’s all good because i get to see the boys respond to helping out and we’ve had some wonderful friends/threads helping out (thanks guys). the report on pam at the moment is that she continues to be on the mend. she has a long road ahead of her in recovery. the nerve pain is gone but she can’t do much because of the surgery’s wound. she can lift the weight of a quart of milk and that is it. no bending, no reaching, etc. this means there is not much she can do other than lay on her side, use the bathroom, walk down stairs to sit up for 20 minutes or so, and then head back to bed. she has come up with some creative methods for teaching the first couple of weeks of her summer course at uwsp. anyhow if you have a second and think of sending her an email or starting an e-conversation with her i’m sure she would appreciate it.

SIDE NOTE – you know how ever family has some crazy uncle, aunt, dad, etc. that everyone says “don’t worry about him. that’s just crazy uncle eddy. he’s just that way”? you love that person, would do anything for her, but you don’t take much of what she says very seriously because the family understands that she doesn’t usually turn her brain on before she speaks. you get a good chuckle out of the absurdity of your uncle’s statements but you also explain to those around that he doesn’t speak for the family and he isn’t really a threat. know what i mean?

i sometimes wish there was a way of saying this to those not following CHRIST concerning some of our CHRISTian brothers and sisters. something like “don’t worry about him, that’s just cousin bob – we think he was dropped on his head when he was a kid.” something to acknowledge that we love a brother or sister as family while agreeing that what she is saying is nuts.

let me specify here that i’m not talking about the actually dangerous people. i’m not talking about the uncle that you wouldn’t leave your kids with. for example – fred phelps (i find it hard to believe that he is a family member – but that is up to GOD to decide) or pat robertson. a family is supposed to protect people from that type of evil. no i’m talking about family members that would be classified as “mostly harmless.”

btw, i’m “looking in the mirror” while i type this because most of the time i am probably the one this would need to be said about. “don’t worry about cousin robert. he just talks that way. we just nod, pass him some more bbq, and leave him in a corner while we do the real work of love”

    happy birthday mom

today is my mom’s birthday. she’s a great lady – if for no other reason than she continues to put up with my dad – and a wonderful mom and grandmother. happy birthday mom.
