fun day

a few notes on my day:

  • while running today a small stick went all the way through the sole of my running shoe and into my foot. this was a half mile a way from my house and i couldn’t get the stick out of my shoe so i ended up walking back home with one shoe off. i know the photo above is blurry but you should still be able to see the stick. i initially thought it was a nail or something sharp but nope it was just a rather dull stick. i must have hit it at the absolute perfect angle for it to go through the sole instead of just breaking.
  • the beauty of my kids is that they were super excited about some fellow pastors coming over to the house today to pray because of a funny line they thought of for the occasion. SPAM, stevens point area ministers, gets together to pray once a month and this month was supposed to be at the terrell house. the boys were excited because they want me to paraphrase a naco libre line. they were going to come upstairs for a second in hopes that i would say “boys leave us so my brothers and i can talk of holy things.” this didn’t happen because we ended up meeting elsewhere. the boys were sad.
  • today i got to talk about jürgen moltmann on two separate occasions. that always makes for a good day.

garden of your mind

he is right, it is good to be curious about many things. now i am going to go grow something in the garden of my mind. thanks mr. rogers.

and you should too

kind of cool to be a part of only the third gubernatorial recall vote in our nation’s history. obviously i am pulling for a certain result (which i won’t say because my blog is on the church’s site and i have wonderful friends in tapestry who hold a different view from me concerning the election and i don’t want them to feel like their tithe went to support politicking) but either way our election process and the democratic republic that results from it are awesome. i assume i am the first member of my family to have ever voted in a gubernatorial recall since i was the first terrell signature at the poll today and i don’t believe any of my extended family has ever voted in a gubernatorial recall before.

duck tape dots

just saw these duct tape dots on lifehacker and i think it is brilliant. now i just need to borrow a gasket punch.

the river gives

2012-05-24 21.09.48

the next line should be “and the river takes away” but as of right now it is just “the river gives.” i caught this rod in the wisconsin river last year. i was fishing for walleye and suddenly had an odd fight. i thought it was a stick but it didn’t act like a piece of wood. i guess it was the rod giving and the weight of the reel that made it feel weird. anyhow, my dad and i clean it today and i now have a free perfectly functioning gander mountain im7 guide series spinning rod & reel combo. pretty awesome. it’s free and its good. you have to like that.

my day

2012-05-16 11.48.51

this is how i spent most of my day. between church work and my d.min project proposal i have spent a ton of the day typing. i haven’t finished the final project proposal yet but i am finally close to doing so.

makes me hope

after quite a few conversations andy l and i have decided to really move forward on something we have been talking/dreaming about – doing a ted talk/q-ish day conference in point concerning faith and culture. i can’t really discuss too many details right now because we are really just at the initial stage of doing this thing. you will hopefully hear more soon. i can say that the drawing below is the gist of today’s conversation.

i post the above video because it is part of what i love about ted talks and q that i hope to bring to whatever we do – big ideas that make us think differently and move us to action. i’ve shared this video of bobby mcferrin three different times in the past two days because i think it is a good example of what i hope will happen with whatever we end up trying. brilliant.

need a pair of sunglasses?

2012-04-27 22.27.34

i tend to blaze through sunglasses. i always have. i have left sunglasses on my car bumper and then accidentally run them over. i have dropped pairs of sunglasses into lakes and rivers only to see them slowly fall into the deep. i have busted the lens of sunglasses on tree branches and other objects. i just tend to be rough on sunglasses. a long time ago i actually bought a few expensive pairs of sunglasses but they never seemed to last any longer than the cheap pairs so i now just stick with inexpensive sunglasses. it just works better for me this way.

two days ago i decided to buy a pair of fishing sunglasses from amazon. i can’t presently find the pair that i had been using for the past year and a half. on amazon i found a pair of key largo polarized sunglasses for $13.95 with a pretty high review rating. i decided to buy them. the sunglasses came in the mail today. when i say “they” i mean plural in number rather “they” just as a single pair of glasses. the picture above is the box of sunglasses i received. there are 12 sunglasses in the box. i freaked out a little thinking that i had just spent $167.40 ($13.95*12) on 11 more glasses than i wanted. like i said earlier i don’t spend a lot of money on sunglasses because i will just end up breaking them. so i checked my bill on amazon. nope, i didn’t spent anymore than $13.95. i guess that amazon made a mistake and sent me too many glasses by accident. i’ll email them tomorrow to make sure. my guess is that they will probably tell me to keep them, though i am definitely not sure about this.

there is a decent chance that i might not have to worry very much about sunglasses for quite some time. anyone need a pair of sunglasses?

couldn’t have been a good concert

or he is very optomistic

or he is very optimistic that if he plays they will come.

the loo

apparently pam was worried that people wouldn’t be able to find the half-bath that is in our mud room so today she labeled it. now guests in our house no longer have any excuse for not knowing where to use the rest room. i now feel better about having people visit us. 😉
