sports*woman*ship

Sara Tucholsky got a lift from Central Washington\'s Liz Wallace, left, and Mallory Holtman.this story is so cool.

western oregon and central washington are playing the game that will determine who has the lead in their ncaa division ii conference (which is important for the tournament). senior sara tucholsky hits the only homerun of her college career and as she is running the bases misses first base. she turns around to go back at touch the base and her knee suddenly goes out. while she lays on the ground the team and officials realize that if anyone from her own team touches her then she is out. their only option appears to be for a pitch runner to come in for her on first base and thus her homerun would be erased (again the only one of her college career). this is when a senior on the other team comes up and asks to carry her around the bases. this is amazing sports*woman*ship.

pointing to grant as he points to someone else

grant posted concerning a post on tom peter’s blog concerning his thoughts for leaders. it’s good stuff.

i think my favorite is …

6. make sure that you spend your time on the things you say are your priorities.
if you say you love GOD, spend time with HIM. if you say you love people, spend time with them.

SIDE NOTE – i finished the nomadic church: growing your congregation withou owning a building and it was excellent. obviously, i’m not an expert on this because we haven’t started services at tapestry (of course, i still won’t be an expert after we start services). it has such great advice in it while still covering theology & theory concerning why you would want a nomaid church. if i were making a list of “must reads” for church planters this book would definitely be on that list.

my mom is right

i just checked my email and noticed a message from my mother concerning my last post. she pointed out that what they are doing is not incredible. i had forgotten about an incident that she reminded me of. when i was much younger and living in dothan, alabama we could hear the screams of a mother two blocks over. she was screaming because he son had decided to skateboard while holding onto his mother’s car bumper. she didn’t know this and backed up instead of pulling forward. the thought of a mother being the means of her own child’s death is not something i want to remember.

so what they are doing is not incredible. it’s stupid.

but it would be cool if done by professional stunt people under a controlled environment.

this is incredible

this is a video of three people in saudia arabia hanging outside a car and doing what appears to be ice skating. i have no idea how they would do or why they would do it but its quite amazing to watch.

ADDENDUM: THIS IS REALLY STUPID FOR ANYONE TO DO AND WHILE I ENJOY WATCHING THE VIDEO I COMMAND THAT NO ONE THAT I KNOW DO THIS EVER. I ALSO FORBID ANYONE TO DO THIS THAT IS NOT A PROFESSIONAL STUNT PERSON.

tapestry color scheme

our friendly anonymous graphic designer has sent me the color scheme she has been working on.

i asked her for earthy/gritty colors. i like them. still i’m going to mull them over for a few days. any thoughts?

wordpress, mariokart, & desperate housewives

wordpress

i’ve upgraded the blog to wordpress 2.5.1 which now allows gravatars in the comments. if you have a gravatar and you place your email in the appropriate part of the comment (which you have to do because i don’t allow comments without emails) then your avatar shows up. it’s much easier than the other solution i had worked on.

mariokart

i went and bought it this morning. we are in the midst of grand prixing the day away. mariokart has always been one of the games that the whole family likes. even pam, the non-gaming member of the family, like mariokart.

desperate housewives

working on the website

this weekend i spent two more days with pastors. this has been a week of pastors. anyhow, i went to the minnesota/wisconsin baptist convention new pastor orientation. this was basically a group of church planters from all over minnesota and wisconsin finding out what was available within the convention. it was a decent time.

since, getting home i’ve been trying to find out how to establish a random header image on the tapestry website. it took me all night (which is a sad statement on my coding skills) but i finally got the code to work in the manner in which i wanted them to. unfortunately i don’t really have any images that i like for the website but once i do they will appear randomly on the web page header.

SIDE NOTE: i’m working through the idea of setting up paypal as a means for people contributing to tapestry. the ease of use would be cool. the problem is that i’m not sure how you set this up when we don’t exist as a legal entity yet. i guess we would set it up through our sponsor church but i don’t really know. does anyone have any experience in this?

grandpa

the climate change commercial that has pat robertson and al sharpton on it scares me. not really because of anything that’s said, but because pat robertson looks just like grandpa on the adam’s family television show. somebody should have redone his make-up or something.

meaningless?

i’ve spent the past two days at meetings with other pastors. there were some really good people involved in the meetings but that’s not what struck me. instead, i was hit by what we talked about. we talked about things that pastors care about and basically nobody else gives a rip on one way or the other. i’m sure this happens anytime you have a meeting that is specific to one profession. for example, i would imagine that when engineers get together and talk for business reasons that the talk is probably about esoteric engineering type things (this is a conversation that i am very glad i have never been a part of). i would imagine that when police officers get together they talk about enforcing the law, giving me tickets, and things like that. so it doesn’t really surprise me too much that when pastors get together they talk about pastoring stuff.

the odd thing was that both days were supposed to be about reaching new people with the message of CHRIST, and while we talked about some interesting things, i don’t remember talking about any of the same subjects that i have discussed with many of the nonCHRISTians i’ve met within the Point area. we didn’t touch on any of the same subjects.

it would be real easy for me to sound real with fit by just ending my post there. after all i would be the one that noticed how out of touch we were. but i need to point out that i was in both of those groups. i could have helped lead the discussion. instead, i sat there and thought how out of touch we all were. what a loser i am.

tomorrow i go to meet with another set of pastors (this is a very atypical week for me – heck it’s an atypical month). hopefully i’ll do better then.

the greatest sermon series title ever?

there are a lot of reasons that i get excited when i think of tapestry finally being launched (it’s happening september 14th) but today i developed a new one. it’s not a very important one but it make me smile. when tapestry is finally having public worship services we’ll have sermon series and eventually we’ll end up talking about sex and the bible. today while i was driving to madison, wisconsin to meet with some church planters from virginia i came up with the greatest sex sermon series title ever. it is …

that’s what she said

it makes me smile just thinking about it.
🙂

SIDE NOTE – if any of y’all steal this from me before i get to use it i am going to hunt you down with dogs and tear your tongue out through your left ear. i’m serious about this.

SIDE SIDE NOTE – i just watched this video of a golden eagle killing three different mountain goats by throwing them off of cliffs. i thought the bald eagles that we see around central wisconsin were large but these birds are huge, and apparently tough as nails.
