fighting fair

i saw this on problogger via lifehacker and i wanted to keep it around somewhere. this seemed like as good of a spot as any to archive this thing.

here are 15 rules for fighting fair:

    1. Know what you’re fighting about
    2. Stick to one subject only
    3. Be direct – say how you feel, say what you require
    4. Choose the time of your battles carefully
    5. Keep quarrels private
    6. Don’t read your partner’s mind
    7. Don’t expect your partner to read your mind
    8. Don’t Blame
    9. Own your own feelings – this means starting sentences with ‘I feel’, not ‘you make me feel’
    10. Don’t talk each other down
    11. Don’t hit below the belt
    12. Don’t wear the belt too high
    13. Don’t bring up past fights and use them as ammunition for the present one
    14. Actively listen
    15. No physical Violence

stupid is as stupid does

i just feel the need to say that myspace is the dumbest thing on the internet and will have disappeared into the void within a year. the world will be a better place when that happens.

gmail chatting

last night i gmail chatted for the first time. once again gmail rocks. i’m not much into IMing. in fact, i pretty much hate it. yet, it is cool to know that i could chat with someone through my email page (i.e. gmail.google.com) if i wanted to. in the case of last night it was pam and she was twenty feet away from me. still it was cool to try it out.

i just thought i would throw this out there because i love gmail.

here are the websites that i use the most:

  • google – the best search engine for my uses.
  • gmail – google’s email
  • flickr – almost certainly the best online photo management and sharing application in the world.
  • del.icio.us – social bookmarking
  • library thing – social library catologing
  • lifehacker – don’t live to geek; geek to live.
  • technorati – blog searching
  • bloglines – rss aggregator
  • ebible – a social approach to the bible
  • wikipedia – massive, collaborative online encyclopedia
  • youtube – a great source for humor, shows, clips, trailers, etc.
  • cool running – a great source for running information
  • wordpress – okay, i don’t really go to this site very often but wordpress is the blogging code that i use for both this blog and the youth ministry site so i figured i would throw it is since i visit my blog and the youth ministry website very often.

let no one say that the homestar runner cannot nap

homestar
if it’s been awhile since last you checked out homestar runner i would recommend going back. i love the site. the animations always make me laugh.

for those playing the game

my last fill up
as some of you know i’ve decided to goof off with the JESUS project theme of “refuel” and reward anyone who signs up (which you can do via the website) on the day that i refuel my truck. the last time i refueled was friday and nobody signed up on that day. i’m about to have to put some more fuel in my truck and we may have our first winner. jessie haltom signed up earlier today and if i can’t make it home without fueling up then she’s going to be our first winner. otherwise, i will be filling up tomorrow. you might want to know that if you were planning on signing up soon.

jess, my assistant, and i were talking today and i think we are going to throw in some gas station prizes for anyone who signs up on a day that i refuel.

tmi

i’m sure that this will go under the “too much information” category for some of you but i had a running first for me today. i ran my longest run to date today (7.5 miles) and by the end of the experience i had developed a slight case of jogger’s nipple. when you run longer distances you can developed an irritation on your nipples. i knew y’all would be thrilled. i promise not to share any more information.

too bad

sorry lsu fans. it just seems like those teams from alabama are always messing things up for y’all. it was a great defensive game. now if only this “teams from alabama beating lsu” trend can continue until bama plays lsu on november 11 everything will be great.

church advertising network

where will you find him
i’m not much for “marketing the church.” i don’t really like the idea of trying to sell the church. that doesn’t mean that i don’t appreciate good marketing or graphic design when it comes to the church. it’s more than i don’t want it as a primary focus of the church or a pillar of bringing people into the church. i basically believe that church marketing probably just brings in “church people” and i’m not very interested in getting “church people” to move from one church to another. i’d rather see the unchurched enter our doors. i believe that purpose, meaning, and love are what will bring the unchurched to be involved with us (please notice i did not say “bring the unchurched to our doors’).

with all the above said i do like the site church marketing sucks and i enjoyed their link to the british church advertising network. their past campaigns are incredible.
