i’m about to sell my second unsolicited photo off of my flickr photostream. a pizza company in the u.k. wants to use my photo of my halloween family for one of their commercials. how odd is that?

the cartoon blog had this up earlier today. i thought it was fitting. i was talking with someone today who left our church awhile back and has been bouncing around for the past year. he said that he was coming back because he was beginning to realize that anytime people are involved in something there are going to be ones who like to screw things up. JESUS described it as wheat and tares. if you try to get rid of all the tares you are going to hurt the wheat in the process. instead you deal with the tares as best you can and let GOD sort it out in the end.

1.63 million dollars for a tennis court
today roger federer and rafael nadal are playing a match on a specially designed tennis court that’s half grass (federer’s specialty) and half clay (nadal’s preferred surface). the court costs 1.63 million to develop for one match. seems just a wee bit wasteful to me. here’s the article.

- render unto caeser – an interesting article on the ooze concerning churches not paying taxes (something that i don’t like that much because i feel that it makes the church dependent upon the government).
- an observer restaurant review – possibly the worst restaurant review ever. it’s fun to read and realize it’s real.
- hank arron credited with 50 more home runs – this is an onion article concerning the mlb “finding” lost homer runs from aaron’s career and bonds and other “roid heads” being pushed further down the career home run list. i placed this on here for sam. please remember the article comes from “the onion” so take it for what it is.

the mormons
i know it will be too late by the time most of you read this but i still want to say that the second part of the pbs frontline documentary “the mormons” comes on at 8 p.m. tonight. pam and i watched the first part last night and it was fascinating. though i know a decent amount about american history and even the history of the lds church i was still not familiar with much of the history that was discussed within the first two hours. i was floored by the mountain meadow massacre. the wikipedia entry on the massacre actually seems to lay less of the blame at brigham young’s feet than the documentary did.

max tivoli
i just finished “the confessions of max tivoli“. it was pretty good overall – not great but good. the best part of the book was actually the concept behind it. max tivoli was born looking like he was 70 years old. he physical appearance changes the opposite of his actual age. thus when he is 15 years old he actually looks like a 55 year old man and when he is 45 years old he looks like a 25 year old. the book is about all the problems that would occur from a person being a mental age that does not reflect what everyone who sees him expects of him. the golden rule that his mother sets up for him is that he should always act the age that people believe he is. imagine the trouble of a 15 year old having to work like a 55 year old man.
the book was an excellent study of an individual who just doesn’t “fit in.”
