the simple life

simple life week #1 title slide
blaine, connie, julie, laura, and i spent the afternoon recording video for some intros for the view over the next three weeks. i’m going to be talking about living a simple life and blaine and laura had the brilliant idea of making a mock version of “the simple life“. you’ll see the first video wednesday at the view or thursday on the youth ministry website.

i dropped the ball

as many of you know sunday we as a church are spending some time dealing with true love waits and trying to honor GOD with our relationships. three or four weeks ago i typed up the letter to send out to our youth ministry families and emailed it to jessica, my assistant. the only problem was that i didn’t actually email it to jessica. instead i apparently saved it as a draft and never mailed it. i found this out last night. so the letter was mailed today. if you are on our mailing list you should get it by saturday or you could just downloaded it from here.

UPDATE – i have apparently confused at least one person with this entry over whether or not we will still have the ring ceremony this sunday so i’m updating this entry to correct any confusion. since, i did at least catch my mistake in time for us to have the ceremony this sunday we will continue to have the ceremony sunday, february 12, 2006. sorry for the confusion.

mp3 view

mp3 view
wednesday, march 1st we will do the view (our student oriented worship service) together via individual mp3/cd players. the service will be up for download the day before. you can download and then come to the view that night. we’ll all start the recording on our mp3 players at the same time and together follow it. it should be an interesting night.

yesterday’s lunch

we ate too much cheese

wednesday are always busy around the youth and college ministry office at parkview. yesterday was no exception to that. though it was busy all of us still wanted a decent meal for lunch and none of us had actually brought our lunch to church with us. we decided to go to vodoo bbq – which was very good. sometime during the lunch jonathan, who loves to have his picture taken, decided he was going to force my hand and get me to take a couple of photos of him hugging people. so i obliged. along the way it suddenly became funny for the person jonathan was hugging to change their face from a smile to what i like to refer to as their “i’ve eaten too much cheese” face. i though the result was pretty funny look.

in order to the full effect you really need to look at this photo in at least a medium size but if you are truly brave then you might want to look at the large size.

sabbath

bells
i just wanted to tell everyone involved within the “sabbath” retreat “thanks.” thanks for being a part of the weekend. i hope it meant as much to you as it did to me. now go get some rest.

the plan for right now

okay guys & girls there are tons of things around baton rouge that can be done to help in the relief effort for the evacuees from new orleans. for now we (the youth ministry) are going to start with two.

  • first, we are going to work with the children of evacuees staying at the shelter at southern university. there are tons of people at southern and their kids are in need of some encouragement. starting tomorrow we are going to be that encouragement.
  • secondly, jason’s deli is making meals for the rescue workers and they need help putting them together. we are going to be that help.

we will meet at the student center and head to both of these spots. i can’t promise transportation, chaperons, food, or anything else. i’m putting this together as i figure it out. all i can promise is that you will be helping to meet two serious needs. once, we get these needs organized and met we will start on other needs.

we’re okay

for those who have emailed and commented asking if we are okay i am glad to report that the terrell family is fine and dandy. i will try to respond to all the email as i get a chance.

if you a parkview church member and you have been trying to contact anyone on staff through their cell phone just go ahead and give up for a while. all of our phones are dead in the water. try calling home numbers. i am in the book so just look me up in the white pages.

we will have church tonight. we need to spend some time in prayer, worship, and discussion on how to mobilize for some more work with the evacuees. i just came back from working in the shelter in the denham springs high school and the one in the denham springs junior high. there is a large need to do something organized with the kids there. we’ll talk.
