apparently my mom is let down because i haven’t posted that pam’s surgery was a success and she is back home (which i don’t understand because i called them).

so here is the report. pam’s surgery went well. she now has a long recovery period. she should be able to go to work in two-three weeks. she’ll be able to do other things over various amount of times (i.e. 8 weeks for walking a dog of less than 10 lbs, 6 months to canoeing, 9 months for painting, etc.)

pam is back from brazil so life is back to normal. ah normality. it is wonderful.

SIDE NOTE – i am ready for the cavs to loose to the magic. i’m just getting a little tired of the lebron love-fest. i think some of the commentators should just go ahead and kiss lebron james on the lips. it’s pretty obvious that is what they are desiring to do. he is an amazing player. there is no doubt about that. yet there are other players on the court and it seems a little strange to brag so much on a player whose team is losing 3 games to 2.

thought this was funny considering my last post.

i had a conversation with someone today concerning hostas. the person i had the conversation with is an amazing gardener. i on the other hand am just a person trying to have a decently respectable yard – and i’m pretty much failing at that goal. anyhow in the process of the discussion composting was mentioned and i stated that i had begun doing it. she then declared that she was too busy to do composting. personally, i don’t care if she composts or not. i am not a composting evangelist. i believe that every person has the right to choose for themselves without any fear of judgment or retribution from any gardening authorities whether they want to compost or not. it’s a free country and the decision to compost or not to compost should therefore be a free choice. i’ll fight for that right.

the reason it was funny to me was the fact that her excuse was that she was too busy. too busy? you should see the amount of work she puts into your yard. it’s gorgeous. the yard requires a lot of work but composting? composting involves mixing a pile of leaves and greens once a month and adding water to it once a week or so. this is not a great deal of work. i probably should also point out that she is retired.

for me it was a great example of saying “too busy” when what you really mean is “it’s not something i want to do right now.” when did it become a bad thing to say ‘i’m just not that in to that,” or “”i don’t want to do that”? why does everything have to be excused with “i’m too busy for that”?

tapestry worship involves group participation. that’s just the way we do things. last night i was talking from matthew 22 concerning JESUS’s statement to “give to caesar what is caesar’s, and to GOD what is GOD’s.” since JESUS’s point in this passage is that scripture states we have GOD’s image “stamped” on us just as caesar’s was on the denarius, i thought it would be nice to to encourage people to draw self-portraits during the message. i figured i could bring the self portraits back into the message around the end of the discussion and it would work for those who like to do multiple things. it would appear that it worked a little too well. for the first 15 minutes i didn’t see anyone’s eyes because they were too busy working on their self-portraits. everyone got into drawing their portrait and kept their head down. it was pretty disconcerting to me because i’m used to eye-contact and interaction on sunday nights. i’m not used to everyone looking down. next time i think i’ll encouraged everyone to do something that doesn’t involve them looking down. 🙂

just a few meaningless thoughts

• “frazier” is one of the greatest shows ever. it’s up there with seinfeld in my book.
• my brief, non-spoiler description of tonight’s “lost” season finale – boring first hour that was made up for in the second hour. makes me excited about the last season next year.
• i’ve swapped to the desktop version of eeebuntu on my asus 901 and i love it. does anyone know of a decent video editor for ubuntu? my goal is to be able to make an edited video with nothing more than my netbook and pocket camera.
• earlier this week i bought bacon cheese (i.e. cheese with bacon in it) and friday i am going to fix myself a grilled bacon and cheese sandwich with it – yes this does mean that i am going to add even more bacon to it. mhmmmm!
• come on celtics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
• in a few weeks tapestry is providing lunch for all the teachers at wshington elementary school during their last day of the ’08-’09 school year. we also had a few people to volunteer to help them with their 5k race they did this past weekend. i’m greatly enjoying the connection with the school. today i talked with one of the administrators concerning us helping them read to “at-risk” kids next year before school starts once a week. nothing definite. all that has happened thus far is that the conversation has started. hopefully we will get to do more and more stuff that helps the kids and adults at washington.

i’m pretty excited because i am now two weeks away from going to q 2009. it is going to be great.

how did you celebrate easter today?

the threads at tapestry celebrated by painting and feeding at the hope center in the morning and then dancing at washington elementary this evening. it made for a wonderful day.
