national day of listening

did you know that story corps has called today the “national day of listening”? what a great idea for a day. i hope we all celebrate it well. someone once told me (i think it was my mom or dad but i am not sure) that since we have two ears and one mouth we should use them in that same proportion.

listen well today.

ending question

so the ending question for my 30 days of question is

what happened to all my posts during the month of october?

i have no idea what happened. i posted questions and then a few additional posts throughout the month but for some reason they aren’t there. i wouldn’t have even noticed this if it hadn’t of been for a comment from my dad asking me where the reminding questions are. sorry dad. i have no answer for this.

maybe m posts are saved as drafts on my desktop computer. i use windows live writer to post on my blog and maybe i was accidentally saving my posts as drafts rather than live posts. if so then they would still be on my desktop. unfortunately i can’t find this out right now because the cpu fan on my desktop died earlier today and thus my desktop overheats every time i turn it on. this will be easy to fix once i am able to find a 70mm fan. this should be easy but neither best buy nor radio shack have a 70mm fans in their stock. even worse the salesperson at radio shack didn’t even know what a cpu heat sink was. –1 for radio shack. so i ordered one from amazon tonight and it will be here by thursday. i’ll check my desktop then to see if i was accidentally saving my posts as drafts.

if my previous posts were saved as drafts on my desktop then i’ll upload them on the dates they should have been posted.

day ##25–question #25

is the bama v lsu game going to be the best and most important college football game of the year?

i know it is early and the game is weeks away but it is beginning to look like it will be an incredible game. i am getting more and more excited.

day #24–question #24

if i were a teacher, what subject would i like to teach?

i read this question somewhere recently (sorry, i don’t know where so i can’t give credit). i have no interest in ever doing more than subbing in a non-college setting so i’ll answer the question from the prospective of college or above. i won’t explain right now but i think i would want to teach either ancient near eastern history or historical/practical theology (there are 4 different types of CHRISTian theology – biblical, systematic, historical, and practical). yeah that would probably be it.

day #11–question #11

have i thought of anything new recently? have i done anything new recently?

novelty for the sake of novelty is not necessarily always a bad thing.

some organizations and mediums require change all the time. some require that you are doing something new because otherwise you are “dying.” it is a part of their nature. TV, films, fashion, and automobiles are like this. you might not make a big change in a car model every year but you better make some change from year to year. i understand needing to do this for marketing. after all, these companies have to some how convince us that the two year old ipod we have is obsolete and we need a new one.

actually, i’m not a big fan of this type of change. i don’t really think that i should live with a constant need for “newness.”

still i am a big fan of trying something new just to push yourself. this type of change helps me to grow. if i don try new things every now and then i become stagnant and that is not something i want to be. so what have i recently tried that is new to me?

since i find myself having to take a little time to discover answers to this question it probably means that i need to do something new. so what should i try?

a great way to begin football season

saint vincei have been a packer fan since the 8th grade when i became convinced that james lofton was the greatest receiver in the nfl and therefore the greatest team in the nfl had to be the packers. i have been true to the pack ever since. being raised in alabama i am more of a college football fan (rool tide roll) than an nfl fan BUT i do love the pack. when the boys were each born pam and i bought them packer outfits. we almost became “shareholders” when i was a new youth ministry at the first baptist church of carthage, missouri but the price of a share was a little two steep for a couple just out of seminary. if i had known that one day we would be living in wisconsin i would have eaten more ramen noodles and bought the share.

cheese was everywhereso thursday was a thrill because it was my very first game at lambeau field. since we moved up to wisconsin i have had other ticket offers but unfortunately those offers have been on significant sunday nights within the life of tapestry. for example, i was offered tickets to a 2008 packers/cowboys game that happened to be on the second night that tapestry existed. needless to say i wasn’t able to go. thankfully this past thursday there was nothing that was more important. thanks to the chair of pam’s department at uwsp we had two tickets to the preseason game between the kansas city chiefs and the almighty packers. it was amazing. i can’t thank gary enough for hooking pam and i up with tickets.

now if someone wanted to hook me up with free or cheap saints/packers tickets for this coming thursday noah’s year would be made.

i am a lousy dreamer

dreams

i am a lousy dreamer.

i don’t mean the above statement in the sense of vision. i am talking about real dreams … the kind you have when you sleep. some people have really cool dreams where they do truly awesome things that they could never do in real life. i think it would be a lot of fun to have such dreams.

instead my dreams have the potential to be terrific and then they end up just being lame. for example, last night i dreamt that i was in an automotive chase with foreign spies. this is obviously a great start for a dream. it would have been a truly exciting dream except that i was driving a full size passenger bus during the chase. it wasn’t some special spy bus with amazing handling and freaky cool spy abilities (like rocket launchers and oil slicks). nope, i was driving a normal grey hound–type bus with air brakes and passengers. to make matters worse the chase was in a road construction zone in a busy city and i was under orders to do no damage. so there were no amazing crashes or cool explosions. instead there was a lot of slow development of speed that was then just as slowly ended by a long period of braking. in addition to this for some reason i was also driving the bus from a second row seat. i have no idea why i was driving from the second row but it was incredibly difficult to see the road from there.

it was all very frustrating.

craiglist is fun

i love craigslist. sometimes i love it for the amazing deals you can discover on it and other times it is because of the unusual finds that always seem to show up on it. tonight pam showed me the above photos. they are from a listing for a (and i quote) “very, very nice furry couch.” the pictures don’t lie. this is a very, very nice furry couch. 🙂
