mlb

it may just be me but my opinion is that major league baseball is lousy except in two circumstances:

  1. see a game in person
  2. the playoffs

i do love the experience of watching a game in person. being there is great. it just doesn’t translate to tv at any other time except during the playoffs. even then it really just barely works until the championships. i love baseball and enjoy watching kids, high school, college, and pro games in person. it just doesn’t work for me on television.

i’ll take pro football, basketball and even hockey any day over baseball.

advent conspiracy redux

i’m excited because i think tapestry has beaten walmart to starting our CHRISTmas advertising – i’m not completely sure because i don’t know if walmart has started placing out CHRISTmas stuff yet but i don’t think they have. two sundays ago we started talking about advent conspiracy for 2009. i told everyone this week that after two weeks mentioning it i would give it a little rest and then bring it up again in november BUT that did not include my blog (because here i get to talk about what ever i want to). so here’s yet another friendly reminder concerning how we are going to try and celebrate the birth of the SAVIOR.

  • give more presents than we did the year before WHILE spending 1/3 less on those gifts – this means making the gifts more relational in their nature (i.e. making them, changing their nature to be something more personal than commercial, etc.)
  • spend half of the 1/3 we saved (i.e. 1/6 of what we would have spent on CHRISTmas before advent conspiracy – thanks casey) on some way of celebrating those we love (i.e throwing a party, incredible food, etc).
  • spend the remain half of the 1/3 we saved on providing clean water for the world.

i haven’t discussed this with anybody at tapestry yet but i think my personal goal for tapestry is that we provide enough money for a well in central america ($5,000). this would be a huge chunk of change for our little community of faith but i think that if the leadership gets behind it we can do it.

so once again let me repeat WE probably BEAT WALMART TO CHRISTMAS!

the shoes finally arrived

the new running socks & shoes
my new running shoes came in from fedex yesterday which is great because i need to put 30 or so miles in on them before running the chicago marathon in them. i also got some new socks for running in. i’ve been developing and rubbing off callouses on the underside of what i believe i would call my ring toe.

this is an issue – yes the callouses but here i’m talking about what to call this toe. seriously do our toes have names? our fingers do. if i say ring finger everyone knows what i’m talking about. this is not true with toes. anyway i would never wear a ring on any of my toes.

so once again i’ve been developing and rubbing off callouses on the underside of what i believe would be called my ring toes. this comes from what i believe would be called my pinky toes nesting underneath the supposedly called ring toes. developing and rubbing off toe callouses during a run is not a good thing. it hurts. so i bought toe socks to counteract this problem. i’ll find out how they work this weekend when i do my last long run (which isn’t really even a very long run because of the fact that i am in the pre-marathon taper). whether they work or not i feel funky fresh wearing toe socks while i run.

that’s right, i said funky fresh.

SIDE NOTE – i’m going duck hunting with andy lickel tomorrow morning. while i’ve been hunting for other things plenty of times, i’ve never been duck hunting before. hopefully i won’t have a cheney moment.

chicago marathon shirt

Chicago Marathon Shirt

i read an article in runnerโ€™s world awhile back that talked about the writerโ€™s love for race day shirts with writing on them. pam and i both thought it was a great thought and therefore iโ€™m trying to come up with a shirt for the chicago marathon โ€“ which is a little over 11 days away.

the above photo is what i am thinking of right now. pam is running it by her colleagues, all of whom work with people with disabilities, to make sure they wouldnโ€™t perceive it as offensive (i donโ€™t want people hurling insults at me while i am trying to make it 26.2 miles). i was wondering what your thoughts where? anyone got anything original that you think it is better?

running the plover river trail

the point area is surrounded by the green circle trail. the green circle is 30 miles of connected trails and parks that are perfect for walking, running and bike riding in the spring, summer, and late fall and amazing for cross country skiing and snow shoeing in the late fall (if we’re lucky with snow) and winter. the trail winds along the plover, little plover, and wisconsin rivers along with several small lakes.

the past couple of days i have been running along the plover river trail portion of the green circle. it’s great. i run along side the plover river with all the trees changing colors and then it changes into tall pine forests.

today i discovered a small (very small) down side to the plover river trail – the stevens point police department’s shooting range is beside it. it’s safe because the range has been built right but it is still a little freaky hearing a constant string of gunfire coming from the side of the trail. the good news is that the slight fear i felt apparently kicked up some adrenaline in my body and caused me to run faster than normal. my pace for today’s run was significantly faster than my normal pace.

tomorrow i may try to get a bear to chase me during my run and see how much that improves my speed.

he's driving

adam
the terrell family went through a pretty major change today – adam acquired his temporary license. this means we have six months of him driving with us and then he moves up to testing for a regular (minor’s) driver’s license. wow, i feel old.

SIDE NOTE – i know i haven’t been writing much on this blog over the past month. that is about to change.
