“wow!” and “what!”

“wow!”
pam and i saw “the passion of the CHRIST” today and words can not convey what it was like. i’m sure their will be people who criticize it but i believe it was incredibly moving. yes, there were a few biblical inaccuracies but they were minor. i left the theater in silence.

“what!”
when i got home the silence was broken. adam and noah, my kids had a guest over (our neighbor spencer) he’s a great kid and no trouble at all. however, when my kids get together with anyone they apparently become deaf and have to SHOUT in order to be able to hear each other. i’ve experienced this phenomenon before but it was finally confirmed yesterday and today. yesterday both adam and noah had a guest spend the night. the second the first kid enter the house the sound level within the house jumped up by 20 decibels. i asked them to be quiet and speak at normal levels but of course, since they had suddenly become deaf i had to shout at them to be quiet, which defeats the whole purpose of asking them to be quiet in the first place. i thought this sudden hearing loss was odd but then it corrected itself once our guests left and went back to their own homes. i figured it was just a momentary thing but then it reappeared once spencer arrived to spend the night. when spencer arrive adam and noah began shouting again.

i think the reason for this temporary hearing loss is that their hearing depends heavily upon air pressure. it is my belief that once another person enters the house their breathing lowers the air pressure within the structure and therefore my kids have to begin shouting. logically this can be expressed as:

guests = lower air pressure
lower air pressure = temporary hearing loss
therefore guests = temporary hearing loss.

this is a valid syllogism and therefore it must be true.

the wonderful thing about this is that now that i have discovered the problem i can go about fixing it. so from now on i am going to put adam and noah in high pressure “bubble” suits when they have guests come over to spend the night. this should solve the problem and my house will be quiet again. i love logic.

yeehaa

i’m presently watching “city slickers” with pam, my wife. i know this is not very thrilling for you but i’m enjoying it and i thought i would type something in the blog. “city slickers” really is a great movie. it’s funny and makes a good point.

as a parent i am proud to announce that i developed a bocce addiction with my kids. we regularly go outside and spend time bowling the balls at the jack. i’m not sure that we are playing bocce correctly but it sure is fun. of course, i feel like i’m a part of the italian mafia the entire time that i am playing.

i’ve been bouncing around on the web recently reading as many blogs as i can. i’ve read the blogs of professors, teens, parents, friends, and many others. i used to think that blogs were basically online journals but i now have a different impression. i don’t write the things in this blog that i write in my journal. my journal is where i express my raw, untainted emotions and thoughts. i write in my journal what i don’t want anyone else but GOD to know and i write it there because no one else will read it. blogs are a different breed. must people tend to type out comments concerning life in their blogs. i’m convinced that blogs are part of our conversation on what life is all about. i type out my thoughts and then you, the uninvolved reader, comment on what you think. reading other people’s blogs is basically like sitting at a coffee table and talking about why we live. the discussions are not always that well founded but they are still discussions.

on a side not real life comes into play. there are some stupid things that happen in this world. it really is a great, big, stupid world.

strong bad rules

i was going to place a picture of my new and legal license plate on the blog but i ran into a small problem. i watched the strong bad email and the thnikkaman and that has completely dumbfounded me. i can’t figure our what the thnikkaman is and at the very same time i am enamored by him. i want to know more about him, even though i think he is basically stupid. if you haven’t watched it yet you should go watch the new strong bad email @ www.homestarrunner.com. i think it is quite funny.

i have a new lackey whose name is alan lusk. many of you know who alan is already. well he has joined the bunch at parkview and will now be around all the time to join in the fun. you can email alan @ talan@parkviewyouth.org.

i vacummed out my car this afternoon and then washed the carpet in it. i decided to leave the windows open to let it air out after washing the carpets. of course, while it was “airing” out it had to rain and therefore i had to roll the windows up. this means that tomorrow when i enter the car it will smell all mildewed and the carpet will need to be washed again.

on a final note, the church is painting the student ministry suite today and tomorrow. it is gray and should look nice.

the dead housewives’

saturday i took pam to see “mona lisa smile”. i wasn’t really forced to go to this film because i’m not really one of those guys who absolutely refuses to go to a “chick flick.” as a matter of fact, i have actually enjoyed a few movies in my life time that many people refer to as “chick flicks” (i’ll never admit to which films these were though). of course, when we got in the theater it was a good guess that some of the guys there had been forced by their female companions to come to the movie. pam turned to me and asked “i wonder exactly how many of the guys here were forced to come to the movie by their dates.”

now, i view the role of a husband as being the protector and provider. therefore, when pam brought up the question it became obvious to me that my role in our relationship was to find out the answer to that question. i decided to ask the guys in the room “how many of the guys in the room have been forced to come by their woman?” it was a risky question because the women in the room could turn on me, but being the provider and protector in tails a bit of risk. so i took up my role and asked the question. immediately several male hands in the room went up and almost as fast several female hands popped, slapped, and hit their dates. truth has it’s consequences. thankfully the other men in the room, rather than me, had to pay the price for their truthful answers.

anyhow, “mona lisa smile” was pretty good though it was a direct rip off of “the dead poet’s society”. of course, “dps” was still much better than “mls”.

return of the idiot

midnight tuesday i decided it would be a fun thing to see the early viewing of “return of the king”. so i joined a few friends and went to the grand cinema to watch an excedingly long but still very good movie. the whole thing ended at 3:30 a.m. and i made it back home around 4:00 a.m. i went to bed and then woke up in the morning and went to work. it was wednesday which meant a busy day but i made it through it. that’s why at 8:30 p.m. i decided to take adam, my oldest child, to see “return of the king”. this time the movie ended at 12:00 midnight and we made it back home around 1 a.m. now i’m really tired and thinking that it was pretty stupid to stay out so late to watch a movie. i’m too old for this.

btw, “return of the king” is really good and if anyone is going late me know, i’ll consider going again.:)

commercials

this is pretty stupid but i just want to say that i love the current “best buy” commercials. i think they are hilarious.

btw, if you haven’t signed up for the “JESUS project” yet you ougth to. it’s november 21-23 at judson retreat center. should be awesome.

sportscenter did a special on “fan man” tonight. he was a pretty commited freak who was opposed to what he saw as “commercial violence” in professional sports. so he strapped a motor to his back and parasailed himself into the middle of the “bowe/holyfield” heavyweight boxing championship on november 6, 1993. of course it wasn’t the “commercial violence” that he should have been worried about because when he landed all the boxing fans grabed him and began to beat him while the “pros” just sat there and laughed. after that he invaded a raiders / broncos nfl game in january 1994 to protest the economics of the nfl. for this he was arrested and charged with disturbing a sporting event. then to february he invaded a world cup soccer game protesting something about violence towards kids, finally he stripped himself down to nothing but his smile, painted himself green and right and parasailed onto the top of buckingham palace. he was arrested, declared an international terrorist, and deported from england for life.

on a whole he was a pretty odd guy. yet it’s the odd guys who quite often make life interesting.

the red or the blue pill?

i’ve got a choice to make that is very important. every now and then you run into a situation where you have to decide if you are going forward or not. to go forward takes you into the unkown which can be good but can also lead to walking off a cliff and falling onto lots of jagged rocks and moss and bird poop as well as the whole nauseated stomach that would happen from the fall before you died on the rocks, moss, and bird poop. to decide to stand still though could keep from you from experiencing what the whole trip is about.

i’ve come to one of those decisions now and i’m having a hard take deciding what to do. you see, i have to decide if i’m going to watch “matrix: revolution” or not. i love “the matrix”. i think it is one of the best movies of all times. it is action packed and at the same time a commentary on life and out view of reality. it is deep in meaning and goes about explaining that meaning in an entertaining manner. it’s a great movie.

“matrix: reloaded” on the other hand is a piece of junk. i hated it. it came across as “preachy” and full of itself. i didn’t even think the graphics were that good. i was so excited about seeing it, but after i saw it i wished they had just left well enough alone and never made a sequel to “the matrix”.

now i face the problem of “revolution”. will this movie make the second one seem at least decent? or will it just continue to mess up what was a perfect movie by itself. i was really mad after watching “reloaded” and i don’t want to have that experience again. so the choice is to skip “revolution” and just try to watch “the matrix” as though they never made the other two, or step forward and watch “revolution” and hope that it makes up for the mistakes of “reloaded”.

i know this probably seemd pretty stupid to most of ya’ll but this is a really big decision for me. sometimes i wish life wasn’t so complicated.
