i blame the zombies

DSC_0021

i am supposed to be in minnesota right now for the MWBC annual meeting. i was going to be sharing a little bit concerning the cool things that have been happening within tapestry over the past summer. it was going to be a good time because i get to brag on what GOD has been doing within tapestry and see some people that i really like.

like i said i was supposed to be there right now but this morning i apparently turned my alarm clock off rather than hitting snooze button for only 5 more minutes of sleep. instead of waking up at 3:30 a.m. i woke up at 7:15 a.m.   bloomington, minnesota is 4 hours away from point and since 8:30 a.m. was when it all began i realized quickly that i wasn’t going to be there and called to let them know they could start making fun of me. i’m sure they are.

i do have a an excuse that makes me feel a little better. you see, i was pretty tired from saving pam from zombies all night. that is the dream that i remember form the evening of sleep. pam and i were in a mall and i was having to save her from the zombies that were constantly invading the building (this sounds a little familiar doesn’t it?). it was a very tiring night. zombies, while slow and dumb, are very tiresome. you will be excited to know that my weapon of choice was a machete because you never have to reload a machete. i used other weapons to keep the zombie horde at bay but it always came back to the machete.

obviously my dream was probably connected with the uwsp zombie shamble that i watched part of last night. seeing zombies waddle down main street ruined my r.e.m. sleep and cost me the trip to minnesota. so i guess i am really blame the threads you sent me invites to the shamble. thanks guys and girls. 😉

infant baptism

yesterday i had the opportunity to share the good news of the kingdom of GOD with a 13 year old who has been coming to tapestry for awhile. i mention this for two reasons (one sad and the other most definitely not):

  1. this is the first teen i have been able to share the gospel with outside of bible camps since moving up to wisconsin and leaving professional youth ministry. a junior high students approach to faith is fascinating to be a part of. i’ve missed it. this was the sad part.
  2. when this kid is baptized he will be the youngest person baptized within tapestry thus far. in fact, he will be the youngest by at least 6 years. everyone else has been 19 years old or older.

this is unusual because everything i have heard recently is that the average age of baptisms within evangelical churches has gone further and further down (i’ve looked for some articles to link to concerning this but i wasn’t able to find any in my brief search so what i’ve heard could be wrong). one of the reports i heard said younger and younger baptisms had reached the point that some have said that baptists and other evangelicals are often basically baptizing infants, something that goes against most evangelicals’ beliefs. it thrills me that we are basically baptizing adults who have come to faith.

SIDE NOTE – there are two terrells that are curling now. adam has joined the SPASH curling team.

another list saying how great point is

forbes just released an article declaring its opinion concerning the 15 best small towns in the us of a in which to raise a family. four cities from wisconsin ranked in the top 15 and point was declared the 6th best. yet more proof that the terrell family moved up to a wonderful place – something we already knew.

there’s no need to be jealous people just because we have the best water in the nation and are in the 10 on everything else that is good. 🙂

united way "make a difference" day info

here’s the email kaylin received with the final information on the united way “make a difference” day. see you at SPASH saturday.

this weekend is going to be amazing. we have over 748 (75 teams) volunteers signed up. we have over 145 + yards signed up throughout portage county. please read below for some information to help you prepare for this weekend’s event. you should have also received a packet from us with instructions and a roster to complete. we have created links to at the bottom of this message to view the documents included in your mailed packet. *any team registering after october would not have received a mailed packet.

1. this event will take place rain or shine.
2. we would like you come to spash no earlier than 8am and by 9am to get your assignments (unless other arrangements have been made).
3. there will be a pancake breakfast served at this time for volunteers by the emerging leaders of portage county.
4. please come with a team roster filled out (legibly) to expedite the process.
5. we have ordered enough shirts for 650 volunteers, we hope to provide everyone a shirt that would want one and would also ask that your team wear these shirts the day of, take photos and email any photos of your volunteers in action.
6. please as a team leader help us out by coming prepared and only sending one representative to the check in process. if your entire team comes to the check in table with you it will make it very difficult for others to check in.
7. please bring a rake or rakes if you have them. we will have the ability to lend out approximately 150 rakes. consider picking a rake at one of the area stores if you don’t have one so we can do our best to lend rakes to those who are unable to secure them. not every team member will be able to check out a rake. if you are uwsp student you cannot get rakes from uwsp buildings and grounds.
8. gloves, tarps, blowers any item that you feel would help you with your assignments, consider bringing along.

this activity is scheduled until 1 p.m. however given the number of registered teams in relation to the number of yards, volunteer teams will likely finish long before this time. we encourage all teams to see how they may additionally assist the resident. we encourage everyone to slow down while helping these residents, your support often times assist them to remain independent living in their home. our staff do the best we can to match yards to the appropriate team. we continue to find this a challenge, however we work very hard to make matches to the appropriate team in accordance with the information you provided during registration. when you get your assignments, look them over before leaving spash and decide if you think this is too much.

see you at 8am this saturday.

it is going to be awesome working with you guys.

it was cold but great

joe

last night tapestry had another baptism gathering at iverson park. i love the way we baptize. it’s public (in the middle of the biggest park in the point area) and its a celebration. we always spend a ton of time together and eating as a part of our baptism gathering. it’s what we do and it is a lot of fun.

but last night was a little different. still good and awesome but VERY COLD.

we are in the between time in wisconsin right now. it’s not super cold but it is definitely not warm. however, the plover river in october is not in between anything. it is VERY COLD! i knew it was going to be bad but i was not ready for it to be so cold that my legs were burning. there were three of us in the water (crystal, joe, and i). joe and i were very shaken by how cold it was (joe even compared it to combat training in the marines). crystal didn’t think it was that bad. i think she is part eskimo – it’s the only way i can explain how she wasn’t taken back by the water’s temp.

next baptism gathering we do before april will involve a hot tub because i’m not going into the plover river again without waders until april at the earliest.

it was still a very wonderful ngith.

the house of hounds

the dogs

we don’t eat out a lot compared to many of our friends. we eat our own home cooked food most of the time.  however when we do eat out we tend to be creatures of habit. we like local restaurants. this goes for all of the places we eat – from nice restaurants and fast food places – we like local. we tend to eat at the same local places over and over again. some of these are CHRIStian’s bistro, green tea oriental, el patron tex-mex, and marvin’s.

today pam and i both had busy days so we decided to order supper from marvin’s. thursday night is the GCB (garlic cheeseburger) special night at marvin’s. mhmmmm! a GCB, cheese fries, and a drink. that’s tasty eating. the wonderful thing about marvin’s (besides the GCB) is that they deliver. that’s part of their thing, they like to say that they will deliver anywhere. the problem with delivery right now is that because of painting our house we do not presently have any house numbers. therefore, pam spent 10 minutes on the phone explaining how to get to our house. the guy who took our order said that it would probably be about 45 minutes before we would get out food.

15 minutes later our food arrived. marvin’s is typically pretty fast but this was much faster than normal, especially since they are based in stevens point. pam asked the delivery guy how he had gotten here so fast, assuming it would lead to some death defying store of speeding down division street (we love death defying stories). instead, his response was that as soon as they started explaining where the order was supposed to go he realized it was the “house of hounds” and knew exactly where it was. that’s right he has labeled us the “house of hounds.” the delivery guy even knew that one of the hounds must be out back while he was there. he was right, montana was at the moment.

we only order from marvin’s once every 8 weeks or so but we have a nickname. WE’RE THE HOUSE OF HOUNDS AND THIS THRILLS ME! i love our community.

our neighbors

when we moved to wisconsin we were blessed with wonderful neighbors. we’ve actually been very blessed in our lives with our neighbors. we had great neighbors in missouri, louisiana, and now wisconsin (the only exception possibly being our first house in baton rouge which was in a VERY transitory neighborhood and thus during our 10 months there we were never really sure who our neighbors were). anyhow, when we were moving form baton rouge one of our big concerns was whether we would have good neighbors again or not. we were actually told from the guy we were buying the house from that all the neighbors kept to themselves and he didn’t really know anyone. this kind of crushed us but we soon found out that it was a mistake. turns out that the guy we bought our house form was the one who stuck to himself. all the other neighbors knew each other and quickly welcomed us to town. we have fallen in love with our neighborhood here in plover. the people we live around are a ton of fun to talk with.

when we started to paint our house, being neighborly, pam sent an email to some of our nieghbors asking for their advice concerning what colors they thought would look good on our house. the photo below is the color combination that we received from bill and debbie. needless to say we didn’t go with their advice :). I think everyone else is pretty thankful for that.
